The small ridges of teeth that rise up through the sewing machine stitch plate. The teeth help facilitate the movement of fabric under the machine foot in a straight direction. Feed dogs are lowered when possible to complete free motion quilting since the fabric needs to freely move in all directions. To mimic feed dogs being lowered, the stitch length may be set to zero.
